Building Mobile Classrooms for 100 000 Learners 

It is an inevitable truth that what we do in the next 10 years will impact the next 10 000, but if you look back at what we have achieved over the past decade (2011-2021) you might be amazed at the difference a small team of dedicated individuals has made. 

Though managing an award-winning and innovative, modular educational program based around holistic learning, citizen science, and addressing community needs we have been able to reach over 100 000 learners within river catchment areas across Southern Africa annually. 

These self-funded programs have traditionally been supported by vehicle manufacturers, allowing us to access these remote locations with various educational tools and at the same time collect scientific data about freshwater ecology and river health in partnerships with various organizations such as the WWF.  

Though the COVID-19 pandemic and ever-changing economic situations globally have resulted in a reduction in support from vehicle manufacturers, limiting our access to areas we have traditionally worked in and in some cases forcing us to close projects completely.

As a team we like to see every challenge as an opportunity to innovate, s they say when one door closes another will open. So after years of managing a modular educational program, with equipment we could not mount into loan vehicles, we are pleased to announce that we have been able to work alongside global leaders in the off-road accessories industry to design a purpose-built educational and research vehicle. We will also be partnering with organizations to ensure our vehicle builds and their monthly running will be carbon.

The vehicles will be completely self-contained and all educational programs will be managed using solar power. The vehicles will be fitted with various citizen science tools, traditional and digital microscopes liked to iPads, digital projectors, drones linked to onboard screens, VR technologies to reconnect participants with nature in an immersive manner, and tools to manage STEM-based workshops including robotics. 

Despite being designed to inspire curiosity and awe, most importantly the vehicles will be used to support local educators in providing them with basic syllabus-based lesson assistance and resources for their classrooms. In addition to this, the Mobile Classroom model also works with community champions, employing them to manage eco-tourism-based activations for school groups and tourism groups in the area. 

We also make our vehicles availed for our glasses distribution programs, a special educational weekend in partnership with Scouts and the Duke Of Edinburg Award, and a women’s only program called “Earth Camp” focusing on empowering women to learn about adventure, science, film making, and remote expedition logistics.

We need your help to build three of these fully equipped Mobile Classroom vehicles, if we can purchase the vehicles various global leaders in off-road accessories have agreed to convert them to the unique purpose-built clasclassroomssroom, research, and expedition vehicle for our programs.
